Land Sector Package and Caring for our Country funding

Recent funding announcements from the Australian Government include the Land Sector Package and Caring for our Country.

Land Sector Package

Land managers have an important role to play in reducing carbon pollution. Through the $1.7 billion Land Sector Package, Australian land managers will have new opportunities to reduce carbon emissions  and lock up more carbon in agricultural lands.

Land Sector Package measures include:

• The Biodiversity Fund — $946m over six years to support Australia's land managers to reduce carbon pollution, protect biodiversity and increase productivity on their land.
• Indigenous Carbon Farming Fund — $22.3m over five years provides assistance to Indigenous Australians to participate in the carbon market.
• Regional Planning for Natural Resource Management Climate Change Fund — $44m over five years to support regional NRM organisations to revise existing regional NRM plans to help identify where in the landscape biodiversity and carbon abatement activities should be undertaken.
• Land Sector Carbon and Biodiversity Board — $4m over six years.

Caring for our Country

Under Caring for our Country, the Australian Government is investing more than $2 billion over five years to improve sustainable land management and environment protection.

Main funding options under Caring for our Country are:

• Community Action Grants—to support local community groups to improve sustainable farming and environment protection
• Open Call Grants—to improve sustainable farming and environment protection,  focusing on national priorities
• Environmental Stewardship—to protect, rehabilitate and improve particular ecological communities in privately managed  land
